GOLF PERSONAL TRAINING

If you’re looking to improve your golf game, one of the BEST routes is also one of the most overlooked – Improve your quality of movement. For some reason many golfers completely ignore the physical aspect of their game, to the detriment of both their scores and their health.

At the top level, most pro’s now work hard at their conditioning, aware that greater mobility, speed and strength will lengthen not only their drives, but also their careers.

Why is conditioning so important? Just analyse a golf swing – an efficient, consistent, powerful golf swing requires a combination of mobility, flexibility, strength and speed, all gearing towards a technically sound swing. Appropriate exercises and movement will drastically help to improve those attributes.

Being a qualified Titleist Performance Institute Fitness Coach has enhanced my knowledge greatly with exercise choices for golfers and has improved my knowledge of golf swing mechanics, sequencing and the body-swing connection.

I am an avid golfer myself too having played since the tender age of 10, representing the county at under 18’s along the way. Alongside this, I’ve always had a passion for helping others. Taking these two attributes and using them to coach golfers to become golf fit and improve golf performance is something I thoroughly enjoy doing.

DEVELOPING YOUR SWING BY

IMPROVING YOUR FITNESS

If you are keen to improve your golf fitness, one of the best ways is to find a personal trainer who understands a solid golf swing and fitness to coincide. There are thousands of trainers out there, but it is important for your game to have the correct training in place, rather than just general fitness programme.

On meeting, you’ll be taken through the TPI screening process will assess and discuss the findings from it. Your program will then be customised and tailored towards what is going to improve your golf game and general well-being obviously taking into account any history of illnesses or injuries as well.

TPI GOLF

fitness coaching

As a TPI Golf Fitness Coach, my goal is to help golfers improve their mobility, power strength, speed and stability so that they can be the best golfer they can be.

Fitness for golf has become an integral part of the sport in the last 25 years with the vast majority of professionals on tour having a qualified TPI Coach within their team.

That said, a TPI Fitness Coach is by no means just for the very best golfers. It’s for golfers of all standards, ages and sex.

ARE YOU

READY TO BEGIN YOUR JOURNEY?

start with a

tpi screen

Starting with a TPI screen which covers 15 mobility tests directly related to the golf swing and golf swing characteristics, a personalised plan will be formulated to get you heading to improved movement patterns. Once mobility restrictions have been identified, strength, speed and power for golf will be assessed and incorporated into your training turning weaknesses into strengths.

There are many reasons why a TPI Golf Fitness Coach is just what you need to take your golf to the next level:

  • Improve mobility to improve your ability to swing a golf club. (mobility restriction identified in initial TPI screening process)
  • Improve golf swing sequencing.
  • Improve power and speed to increase the distance you hit the golf ball.
  • Improve strength to help with the physical demands of golf, decrease the risk of injury and increase force production to hit the ball further.
  • Improve balance and stability to have better control of the club and deliver it squarely at the ball.
  • Improve your choices with nutrition for golf to maximise your chances of playing the full 18 holes to the best of your ability.

A golf fitness programme will usually

focus on the following:

MOBILITY & FLEXIBILITY

Good mobility and flexibility is important in the golf swing to allow the golfer to achieve the correct technical positions to improve performance as well as reduce the risk of injury. Improving both mobility and flexibility will also allow the golfer to sequence their swing correctly to improve consistency and power.

POWER & SPEED

Through increasing power and speed for golf, we can increase our club head speed. For every MPH increase with a golfers swing speed equates to in and around 3 yards of added distance. I’m yet to meet a golfer who wants less distance!

STRENGTH

Often misunderstood. Strength Training is extremely important for golf, firstly for neural factors. It improves the quality of the signal sent from the brain to the relevant muscles to produce the requested movement.

The second factor is bigger muscle fibres have potential to be stronger muscle fibres and stronger muscles have potential to produce more force. The golf swing is an explosive powerful move which our physical training should reflect.

STABILITY & BALANCE

When golfing, you need to be able to maintain a position when force is trying to disrupt it. Lower body stability is one facet of maintaining a stable golf swing, however, there is more to it than that. For golfers, pelvis/trunk stability is critical which means controlling your pelvic tilt, pelvic rotation and torso rotation (motor control playing a big role).
